The End of August Has Arrived…

…and all my mind hears is “This is Halloween This is Halloween!”

Although the current heat wave is making it a little harder. Although I grew up in Phoenix, AZ so it was never real cold on Halloween or anytime surrounding Halloween. I can’t wait to decorate the apartment and go shopping for Fall items! OMG it’s going to be awesome. As a desert dweller I am taught to fear and hate Summer. I don’t mind admitting I am the Basic Witch who loves all things Fall and especially Halloween!

I woke up again with anxiety over work and worrying I am dropping the ball and doing a bad job. It wasn’t as bad as the previous night but enough to make me tired today. Anxiety doesn’t just poof go away when you figure it out – it continues to flow through your body for awhile. Or at least it does for me. It flows in blood for awhile making all my cells buzz a little with it. That is the best way I can think to describe it. I hope it doesn’t happen again tonight. It is becoming a problem.

This Weather Got Me…

…Feelin’ Fall Y’all!

It was a chilly day followed by a night of watching ‘Halloween Baking Championship.’ It’s a feeling I wait for all year long (kind of like seeing Santa at the end of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade). It is delightful! You already know why I love this show, but it’s just the perfect thing to cap a day that feels like Fall. They brought back a great host and are bringing back contestants from past seasons which is a fun twist. Support and spooky desserts – a fine combination. I love Fall – best time of year. Starts with a birthday and if followed by all the fun stuff. Brings peace and joy to my heart and black and orange to my black Halloween loving soul.

Call me basic and see how much I care. Own your joy and don’t let anyone else label you.

First Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew…

…of the season!

I allowed myself my first Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew today and to switch to my new Loungelfy Hocus Pocus mini backpack and I love it! It is the start of my favorite season. If you are thinking it’s too early in the season and I say I waited as long as I could possibly control myself. It brings me joy – take that shit somewhere else. You wanna put up your Christmas tree now? DO IT! You wanna hold on to those last days of summer well into winter? DO IT. Do what gives you joy and makes your days a little more fun. Embrace your ‘basic’ – it takes a sense of courage to like what you like when someone is trying to label you. Wear the label with pride and take it back – but we’ve talked about this in previous years 😉

My Happy Place Is…

…anywhere there is Halloween decor.

It sounds silly, but I am completely serious. I got to decorate for our Halloween event at work and it took me from a terrible mood to a great one. It helped me let go of the anxious thoughts running around in my brain. Walking around Michael’s with all of the Fall and Halloween decor is just bliss. I pick out all the things I would buy if I could and get a few small things that make me smile and I can afford. Seeing my neighbors decorations when I am out walking my dog is absolutely great. There is a whole grass part of the complex that is now dedicated to Halloween. The dollar store has pretty good affordable decorations. The value section of Target has one of my favorite new decorations this year, my bird wall. It’s black crows you bend and tape to look like they are flying. So cool! It all makes me incredibly happy. I imagine it’s how a lot of people feel about holiday displays or how I hear people describe visiting Disneyland. My twisted little heart loves Halloween.

Happy October…

…is the best time of the year!

And I am hoping it’s better then the rest of the year has been for the world. I am also excited to see the pandemic pun costumes people post this year. I just tried Marty’s Halloween costume on him – he is going to be a spider. He was not thrilled with it but also not too miserable. I also need to switch him to his glow int he dark Halloween collar. If you have just started reading my blog you should now I live Halloween (and fall right into NYE).

It’s also the time of Pumpkin everything which I love because I am basic bitch and damn proud. I will like what I like dangit! Also, my allergies are back to not terrible so hooray! October is wonderful and I hope it brings some magic into your world.

Do you love fall, pumpkin all, and all Hallows Eve? Speak out loud and proud with me!

Let’s Take Basic Back…

…and stop putting that label on people…especially other women.

I am extremely over people using the term basic as an insult and judgement of things that bring people joy. I feel like this term originated with fall, pumpkin, and women. Somehow finding joy in pumpkin, fall decor and the season means you are a sheep with no original taste – especially if you are a woman.

I am saying it loud and proud I LOVE FALL, HALLOWEEN, and PUMPKIN and I am not sorry. You can call me basic, I wont change or feel bad about things that bring me joy because of your judgment. Why are people making other people feel bad for things they enjoy? Like what you like and don’t apologize. I believe this is critical to setting your own p(e)ace.

I am proposing we take this word back and I am not alone. Check out some of the posts, memes, and products below. Basic bitches unite!

Great article on being a proud basic bitch and kicking off others judgement!

I Will Spend the Last Four Months of 2019…

…remembering I made mid year resolutions and trying harder to follow them.

I made mid year resolutions about three months ago and then kind of forgot about them. If nothing else I want to be honest in this blog so there’s the truth. I saw a post on Instagram that reminded me of them and I decided it’s time to take a look back and see if they need slight amending to make them more doable.

Here they are:

  1. Put 3% of every paycheck into my savings account
  2. Workout three times a week instead of two – every week
  3. Perform at least three acts of kindness per week
  4. Run Halloween 5K in Spider Gwen gear (my dream is to be an athletic nerd

Updates and Revisions:

  1. I can’t do this…I wouldn’t eat. My revised goal will be to put $20 from every check into my savings.
  2. I have actually been pretty good about this one so it’s staying as is. Two R.I.P.P.E.D. classes a week and at least one day of an hour of walking/some jogging.
  3. Yep – 100% forgot about this one. I still like it so I am going to try harder to remember it.
  4. If you have read the last few posts you know I am still pretty determined to complete this. I will post training photos to keep me on track

I will take August as a bridge into the end of the year and my best effort to complete my resolutions.

Do you have any end of year resolutions?

I Will Spend the Last Six Months of 2019…

I realized today that there are only six months left in 2019 and so much left to do. As a native Phoenician, I am trained to fear and hate Summer and I found myself wishing it was Fall. That’s wishing three months away. Don’t get my wrong, Fall is still my jam, but I am not ready to trade those three months. So the next thought is what am I going to do with those three months and the three after that. I need to set some half year goals! This will help me check in with myself to ensure I am setting my own p(e)ace and change course when needed.

2019 half year goals:

  1. Put 3% of every paycheck into my savings account
  2. Workout three times a week instead of two – every week
  3. Perform at least three acts of kindness per week
  4. Run Halloween 5K in Spider Gwen gear (my dream is to be an athletic nerd)

These may change at my 3/4’s of the year check in but for now I think this a good start. Does anyone want to make some half year goals with me?
